About the Role

The Senior IT Project Manager is a key member of the IT Services team, tasked with overseeing and guiding IT projects that encompass a broad range of technologies and systems. This role involves the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of projects that support the organization's IT infrastructure, software development, cybersecurity initiatives, and technology integration efforts. The individual is responsible for managing project timelines, budgets, resources, and stakeholder communications to ensure successful project outcomes. They play a critical role in coordinating cross-functional teams, including IT professionals, developers, security experts, and business stakeholders, to achieve project goals.

The Senior IT Project Manager leads efforts in infrastructure upgrades, software deployment, data security enhancements, and the integration of new technologies. They ensure projects are aligned with the organization's strategic objectives and comply with industry standards and best practices. This includes scheduling and conducting project meetings, risk management, problem resolution, and reporting on project status to senior management.

The role demands a comprehensive understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and tools, along with a deep insight into the organization's operational processes and business applications. The Senior IT Project Manager is also responsible for adhering to the organization's IT governance standards and contributing to the development of IT policies and procedures.

Furthermore, the Senior IT Project Manager is expected to maintain a proactive approach in learning about the business practices of their internal customers across all business units, implementing IT solutions and processes that support and enhance business operations. They must ensure that all IT projects and systems are documented thoroughly and that processes are in place to meet compliance requirements, such as SOX, where applicable. Through their leadership, they facilitate the integration of industry best practices into the organization's IT project management and operational activities, aiming for excellence in IT service delivery and support.

As a Senior Project Manager for Infrastructure, specializing in storage and compute, your role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities. You will be leading projects that are not only pivotal to the organization's IT backbone but also critical to ensuring security and data integrity.

What you'll do:

Project Management and Leadership:

  • Spearhead initiatives to upgrade and implement security monitoring systems, including CCTV cameras and access control systems such as card readers, to enhance physical security across the organization.
  • Lead the deployment of hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solutions from leading vendors such as Cisco, Nutanix, and others, aiming to streamline data center operations and enhance compute, storage, and networking functions.
  • Manage the lifecycle of data backup and recovery projects, integrating solutions like Cohesity to ensure robust, scalable, and secure data protection strategies.

Strategy and Planning:

  • Collaborate with IT security teams to assess current security infrastructure, identify vulnerabilities, and plan for the integration of advanced security monitoring tools.
  • Conduct thorough market and technical research to evaluate hyperconverged infrastructure solutions, considering factors like performance, scalability, cost, and vendor support.
  • Develop strategic plans for data management and backup, including the assessment of current data storage needs, future growth projections, and integration of comprehensive backup solutions.

Technical Oversight and Guidance:

  • Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of security monitoring systems, ensuring they meet organizational security policies and compliance requirements.
  • Guide the selection and deployment of HCI solutions, working closely with vendors and internal teams to tailor the architecture to specific organizational needs.
  • Oversee the implementation of data and backup solutions, ensuring they align with business continuity plans and disaster recovery strategies.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Implement quality assurance processes for the installation and configuration of security systems, ensuring they are tested and functional.
  • Ensure HCI deployments follow industry best practices for security, performance, and reliability.
  • Monitor the adherence to compliance standards in data management and backup projects, including data privacy laws and regulatory requirements.

Communication and Stakeholder Management:

  • Regularly update stakeholders on the progress of security system upgrades, including challenges, milestones, and next steps.
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops with key stakeholders to align expectations and requirements for HCI projects.
  • Provide clear and concise reporting on the status of data and backup solution projects, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of risks, timelines, and impacts on business operations

You have these skills:

Project Management Methodologies:

  • Deep knowledge of various project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and Kanban. Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Scrum Master (CSM) is highly desirable.

IT Infrastructure:

  • Understanding of IT infrastructure components including hardware, software, networks, data centers, and cloud services. Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools and practices is a plus.

Cybersecurity Practices:

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and tools. Experience in managing projects that involve implementing security measures and compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Software Development:

  • Experience with software development processes and life cycles. Familiarity with development tools, version control systems (e.g., Git), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Cloud Platforms:

  • Understanding of cloud services and deployment models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) across major cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. Experience in managing cloud migration or cloud-native projects is advantageous.

Data Management and Analytics:

  • Knowledge of data management frameworks, big data technologies, databases (SQL and NoSQL), and data analytics platforms. Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, and business intelligence tools is beneficial.

Networking:

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and services (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, VPN). Experience in projects involving network architecture design or optimization is a plus.

Collaboration and Communication Tools:

  • Proficiency in using project management software (e.g., JIRA, Asana, Trello) and collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams). Experience in setting up and managing virtual teams and remote work technologies is important.

Budgeting and Cost Management:

  • Ability to prepare and manage project budgets, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and ensure project delivery within allocated financial resources.

Risk Management:

  • Experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks. Familiarity with tools and methodologies for risk management.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Understanding of IT governance, compliance standards, and best practices in IT operations. Experience in managing projects that require adherence to regulatory and compliance frameworks.

Change Management:

  • Skills in managing change within organizations, including the adoption of new technologies, systems, or processes. Familiarity with change management frameworks like ADKAR or Kotter's 8-Step Change Model.

Documentation:

  • Strong documentation skills to ensure that all aspects of project planning, progress, changes, and outcomes are clearly and comprehensively recorded.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams, resolve conflicts, and promote a collaborative project environment.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT project management, with at least 5 years focused on infrastructure projects involving storage and compute solutions.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale, complex IT infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of current and emerging storage and compute technologies, architectures, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification highly desired.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing technologies and environments.

Extra credit if you have:

  • A Master's degree is preferred.

The annual salary range for this position in California is $ 117,800 - $160,340. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
